I like the idea of using technology to get rid of and/or reduce unwanted noises/droning, what have you. But I hope the layering of additional sounds beyond that can be disabled. I'm not sure I'd feel the need on a stock Mustang or F-150, but I would if I'd start modifying them.
Also, I think they should start offering this on EVERY Lincoln, to add in another layer of luxury, that luxury being a car that is as quiet as possible.
But again I'd love control over this system, as if I were to take my noise cancelling headphones on and off at the flick of a switch.

I agree.
Noise CANCELLATION is great in a luxury, quiet application.
How the Ecoboost Mustangs applies it is completely unacceptable on a pony car, and the wrong direction for the segment.
At least the naturally aspirated versions don't fake the experience.

I think unwanted noise cancellation is a nice feature on any car, I don't have a problem with it, I dislike that I am getting a fake engine soundtrack though, because sounds are added in. Having not driven one I can't say it's my definitive opinion though.

Totally agree. I have only driven the new Buicks with the noise cancellation through the speakers. No added sounds though.
Really, I wouldn't expect anything less from a modern manufacturer than a seamless blend of the added sounds. I think it would be a perception problem for me.
As car people we like cars and know how a car works along with the sounds correlated to it working. Even if it's the highest quality sound file is being played through the best speakers in the world, it's the simple fact that the sound is faked that would be the deal beaker for me.
It would make no difference how well it's executed.

The Motor Trend video makes it sound like the Ecoboost Mustang makes great turbo "whoosh" and spooling noises (FF to ~10:00)
I think it's high time we moved away from the "moar cylinders = better" mindset. I don't have a problem with the turbo 4 being a better motor than the v6; I think technology is great. What the Angry Internet Men have taught me as I read the comments on the turbo 4 Mustang leads me to believe that there is still a segment of the market that would prefer an engine that is worse in every available metric, as long as it has more than 4 cylinders.
As an aside, I'm not really sure why people believe this; I've driven great cars with everything from four to eight cylinders. To me, there's nothing inherent in the number of cylinders that makes a car good to drive or not. A 4-cylinder Miata or WRX is great fun, while a 6-cylinder Camry is boring, and certain v8s like my friend's 70's Ford LTD can somehow manage to make 460 cid uninteresting.
I have to wonder if the noisemaker is intended to help ease the transition to smaller, lighter engines for this segment.
But I do hope that there is an option to turn it off, for those of us who are OK with the 4-banger.

Yeah, I have to think someone with a tuner should be able to do it, due to what they were doing on that video on jalopnik front page.

Oh and I would drive a 70's LTD with a 460, haha.

it does, you can hear the turbo spool up and the muted blow-off valve. the active noise control doesn't do anything about that.
